I belong in Washington state. I heard its rather rainy there. Are you affected by the weather? I know I am. I enjoy sunny days but I get the most done when it's raining. Today I've already practiced yoga, cleaned the house, and sketched for an hour. Wish it rained every morning :) now I'm studio bound to finish some orders!

Some patterns and painting from my sketch book this week
Some of these will eventually become patterns for a necklace I'm working on!

Packaging: from drab to fab
Spent a little time this morning playing around with my oh-so-boring but-oh-so Eco friendly recycled brown paper bags. I really try hard not to kill the environment where I can, but sometimes going green can be so, plain? So here are my prettied up shopping bags and maybe I'll include them in my upcoming shows :) oh and it's really easy, I just used some non toxic water color paints!

You've become so much more...
Out of my whole body of jewelry work, my heart strings are always pulled towards the Sweet Wood collection. The simplicity of the contrasting wood and pure white are just calming to me. So I've decided to start expanding this collection into something more substantial.
When I originally created the wood pieces, I intended them to be accents to my fabric pieces, after thoughts really. However, I feel like they have now become a design by themselves.
Also, I've been preoccupied by this one thought today: layering.

Freeasy Bean Bags!
I was just smitten by these modern bean bag loungers, I think these really elevate the bean bag from college to adult status.
I especially love this little diagram on how to use them! Free and easy, love it!
you can check them out for yourself here: www.freeasy.co

Random Feature :)
I was browsing my website providers section of templates and what did I find? My own website being featured as a good example of how the templates are used! Woo hoo! super random but appreciated! Thanks Jimdo :) I love using their website builder for any of you looking to build your own domain. It's so simple and easy and is perfect for artists looking to showcase their work. Ok I'm done plugging, oh also it's super affordable!

I Want to Go to That
Hello! I have been doing a lot of traveling this week... on the Great Oracle that is. :) I recently have found some places that I urgently need to see. Here they are as follows:
1) Kiteya in Soho NY
They sell new Kyoto fashion, accessories, and home goods as well as fabrics and papers. I can't wait until my next trip to the Big Apple, this is already bookmarked on my map!
2) Mitsuwa Summer Festival in NJ: Saturday 8/18/12
Who knew that Mitsuwa had a Summer Matsuri?! Well maybe you did but I didn't! And so close to home! Taiyaki, Okonomiyaki Pancakes, yakitori, green tea ice cream.... ok you know why I'm going!
3) Mathematics of Light by Chin Chih Yang, at the Towson University Asian Arts Gallery. Now - 7/29/12
This exhibit looks so interesting! According to the website, "Yang's "Mathematics of Light" is sculpture/installation made of cans, tubing from hospital oxygen masks and other recyclable materials, which signals a conservation aesthetic in a society for the most part dedicated to waste"
SOooo, I'll be a busy lady for the next few weeks! Hopefully I'll get to these places and have some fun photos to share with you all!

Morning sunshine
Got up bright and early, the weather has really cooled down from last week! I recently have been drinking hazelnut coffee and it makes my mornings so much happier :) A nice breeze is motivating me to get ahead of some work, that is truly rare.
In other news, we are getting ready to make an office space for Kirk! The room is so bare looking, it's odd. Cleaning out that room pushed us to clean out a bunch of rooms and we donated more clothing and objects the other day. My observation from cleaning is: out of sight, out of mind is really real! Who knew I needed these old magazines I hadn't seen for years until I re-found them yesterday? Hahaha what are some of your cleaning epiphanies?

Fresh fresh fresh
Even though I hate the heat, you really can't beat Summer foods :) fresh corn on the cob and juicy watermelon! And for tomorrow a romaine salad with fresh-from-the-garden cucumbers. I haven't figured out what to do with all of the cucumbers I get actually: salads, dip, raw? What do you like to make with them?

After 7 days without power I'm so relived to be working again! It came on just in time because I got notified that the Strohl Gallery Store wants another shipment! So if your in NY you can check out some of my newest pieces that are up for purchase there. I hope you all are staying cool in this 100 degree heat!
